Banks

NatWest Bank

Stocker Rd, Exeter EX4 4SZ, UK – 0345 788 8444

Apart from the time it takes to get seen the service is great

Very patient and friendly staff.

Barclays Bank

Alphin Brook Rd, Exeter EX2 8RG, UK – 0345 734 5345

I had to pay a cheque into German Shepherd Rescue Elite (we obviously rescue German Shepherd dogs that have fallen on bad times though no fault of their own). I was going to pay it in to the Exeter city branch, which is a bit of a hassle having to go into town, but a quick check on the internet showed there was a branch in Marsh Barton. I found that I can park right outside a couple of steps and I'm in the bank, but even better, I didn't have to mess around with one of those self service machines, I could give the lovely cashier the cheque and the paying in details, job done. Thank you :)

Barclays Bank

3 Bedford Street, Exeter EX1 1LX, UK – 0345 734 5345

Welcoming-staff busy but sorted my query. Seemed efficient but need signs to tell people where to go

Terribly busy, and now no proper counter service available. Avoid at busy times at all costs unless completely necessary

Building Societies

Welcoming and helpful staff.

Always helpful staff.

Local Chambers of Commerce for EX1 1SE. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. What you put in is exactly what you get out. Below is the national site. Watch this slot - it might improve!
Exeter City Council

Civic Centre, Paris St, Exeter EX1 1JJ, UK – 01392 277888

Never had an issue personally, and have always been treated well whenever i have visited. offices appear clean and inviting and well staffed. I do have a few comments, 1) i agree with another poster on the comment made about the students - there is not enough social housing and too much is being given to students instead so the balance is not quite right in my opinion - especially when historic Exeter buildings are being pulled down to develop new buildings - i am all for growth but the residents of Exeter deserve a slice of the cake 2) i am not a fan of the automated phone service as sometimes you can end up anywhere and 3) the disabled parking is lacking - there is space for two cars but any spare space available is marked off in white lines with just the one space in the middle which seems silly. Considering what ECC have to work with i feel that they overall do a good job, and i enjoy living in Exeter.

Need to sort out their local housing priorities and stop building student accommodation everywhere in the centre. Apart from that, good

ECC Recycling Centre

Oakwood House, Exton Rd, Exeter EX2 8NR, UK – 01392 277888

Health and safety awareness , polite and knowledgeable, helpfull and more than capable to keep up with demands in industry

Certainly better now than ten years ago, staff are more helpful yet under more pressure in this PC and H&S society, the arrangement of waste types is good, sometimes have to ask where to put something and once I wasn't able to drop my waste (domestic) when the bin men missed my house one week. [ had to find alternative method]

Dental Surgeries

The Exeter Dental Centre

17 Castle St, Exeter EX4 3PT, UK – 01392 272350

Having been a patient here for many years, in February of this year I started implant treatment with Ruairi and have just completed the replacement of a 'milk' tooth with a permanent implant. I am very happy with the aesthetic look of the implant, as well as the care and work carried out by Ruairi and his team throughout the entire process. I was always made to feel at ease, and appointments were easily made to fit around a busy working schedule.

Very good visit to hygienist. Jan explained everything very clearly. As a nervous patient, I found the whole experience very friendly and efficient. Many thanks.

St Thomas Dental Centre

48 Cowick St, Exeter EX4 1AP, UK – 01392 210850

Firstly, these guys saved my bacon today THANK YOU, without their speed and great customer care my new year would have been miserable. I called for an emergency appt and I would like to thank the receptionist for her understanding - I had been working abroad for 4.5 years so lost my NHS registration with the practise - she fixed that for me, called me back within an hour - thank you to the Practise Manager for allowing me to re-register after considerable time out, and Thank you to Aga the delightful dentist and her lovely dental nurse who were very kind and understanding of my dental phobia and treated me with up-most courtesy and gentleness. I cannot rate this dental practise high enough for all their help and care. Anyone who is nervous and needs to be put at ease register with these guys, trust me I had to go through most departments today and ALL were FIRST CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The South Lawn Medical Practice

Heavitree Heath Centre, South Lawn Terrace, Exeter EX1 2RX, UK – 01392 281101

Southlawn Medical Practice has provided a professional, confidential, efficient service for me since 2005, with genuine sensative and kind GP's. I am pleased to say that it is the best Medical Practice that I have ever been registered with, and as a 'healthcarer' myself I can TRUST my GP's implicatly with my 'health' needs, and my secure: personal and private information. I am infact planning to move house in the near future and will endeavour to move within the 'Practice' catchment area, as I sincerely beleive that to change now: would jeopardize my health and sanity.

The Pinhoe Surgery

Pinn Ln, Pinhoe, Exeter EX1 3SY, UK – 01392 469666

Unfortunately it is impossible to get an appointment unless you ring at 8am the day you need an appointment and then it is not guaranteed. Quick to give you medication rather than try and work out the problem. The reception staff are very hit and miss - if you get them on a good day they are very helpful. Dr Bird is a fantastic doctor. Cannot fault him!

As doctors surgeries go, this one is pretty good. It's so nice to visit a surgery with receptionists that talk to you as a human.

Dr S Stanford - the Whipton Surgery

378 Pinhoe Rd, Exeter EX4 8EG, UK – 01392 462770

This recycling centre is an example to all other centres . Not only is it clean and tidy but the staff are so helpful and pleasant. What a difference from Exmouth! I think they should retrain at Pinbrook. Many thanks.

Visited here for the first time today. I was told that the staff here are a lot friendlier than the other one in Marsh Barron, which is very true! They are very friendly and helpful!

Devon Contract Waste Ltd

Work

Paperchain Co-operative

8 Christow Rd, Exeter EX2 8QP, UK – 01392 490255

Have been using them for a few years now, all members of staff are friendly and would highly recommend

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Hatts Bar & Restaurant

11 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3RP, UK – 01392 434184

It was a Thursday farewell to a work colleague there were 9 of us for drinks only starting at approximately 630pm ending at about 1100pm. It was quite quiet during our time there with perhaps 15 other customers coming and going during this time. The staff were pleasant end friendly. I would definitely go back on a Thursday evening for quiet drinks. Cheers AL

The Spice Island Restaurant

Magdalen St, Exeter EX2 4HZ, UK – 01392 435660

Great meal. We ate here recently under the new ownership/name of Spice Club and it was fantastic - food was amazing, their Bombay aloo and mango chutney were the best we've had. The service was welcoming and friendly and I would definitely recommend.

Picked the restaurant at random from Maps and it worked out well. Owner is a nice guy who is enthusiastic about serving decent food - the chicken I had was good quality and well cooked. I think they haven't had the business long so experience is not completely polished yet but definitely worth a visit.

Starz Bar and Grill

18 Lower N St, Exeter EX4 3ET, UK – 01392 256625

Excellent nursery. My two year old daughter has been attending since January and she absolutely loves it. The staff are wonderful and the environment is nurturing. I shall recommend it to anyone looking for a nursery in Exeter.

Primary and Secondary Schools

Steiner Academy Exeter

Thomas Hall, Cowley Bridge Rd, Exeter EX4 5AD, UK – 01392 757371

Fantastic school. Both of my children attend and can't wait to get there each morning. Both are flourishing academically and socially since attending. Highly recommend especially if your children are not suited to the stress of mainstream schooling where they are pressured to hit textbook benchmarks starting at a ridiculously early age. Changing to Steiner Academy Exeter was the best decision we ever made for our family.

Saint Wilfrid's School

25 St. Davids Hill, Exeter EX4 4DA, UK – 01392 276171

The best school ever! I am so glad i found this school for both my children - small and friendly - exceptional teaching staff - children's well being always put first. Simply superb.

My 3 children attend St Wilfrid's School in Exeter and they love it. The school is small, and friendly and has a family-run feel to it. The small class sizes are fantastic as it means that my children get individual attention from their teachers and they are able to develop at their own rate. All the pupils know one another and the teachers are friendly and approachable. I could not recommend this school highly enough.
